Task 5 weekly project - Time

I decied for the weekly task that i would take photos of my backyard , by doing this i took three images that showed a time from night to the next moring , i wanted to show how the snow that statred hailing down very hard then in the morning it went clear, but also to show that the snow slowly covered the deck .

Research - Robert frank

Robert Frank

Robert frank was a swizzes photographer, born 1924, has worked as a fashion photographer for harpers bazaar magazine. He created a handmade book of photographs that he shot in Peru and returned to U.S in 1950. That year was momentous for frank , who after meeting Edward Steichen, participated in the group show ‘ 51 American photographers; at the Museum of Modern Art.

With the aid of his major artistic influence, the photographer Walker Evans, Frank received his first Guggenheim fellowship in 1955, then embarked on a two- year journey across America during which he took over 28,000 images. Just 83 made it into the ground breaking monograph The Americans.

The idea of contrasting social classes would later be used to great effect by the outstanding Robert Frank , his style of photography was looser and spontaneous which we see that in a lot of his images frank try to capture the emotions that are founds within the space or period of time , we can see with the examples that have been given that frank really viewed his images as a microscope by this we mean that he wanted to capture the moments that were not quite visible un less you took a closer look at it .

The camera is superior to the eye, and the photograph can. And ideally, should portray the world, more graphic then reality itself.

 For this assignment I have decided to photography the BP (a petrol station) that is situated in Wainuiomata, I would like to capture the interaction that the customers have with the pumps as an example but also to show that over time how customers come and go, to add to this I would also like to capture how the space can be empty and how it can also be very busy from time to time. For this project i would like to achieve the following things.

Ideas

For one of ideas I could possibly do stop motion film, I would then have car and a person, who would fill up their car, I would watch them and then photograph them by this I would then create a stop motion film that would show how over a certain period of time. This will be in the format of photographically based stop motion animations. I will have to experiment thou with this.

·         I would also like to have captured the interactions of the customers with the pumps.

·         To have captured the time from morning till night at the BP station.

·         To have related my shots to my artist, Robert frank

For this assignment I will then need to have visited the site in the morning, mid day and night. I will do at least three shoots altogether, by doing this I am able to select the ones that I feel communicate my ideas effectively.

 I will use Robert frank for my artist that I will focus on during my time of doing this assignment.

 I will use his ideas and theories when I’m taking my photos, i hope that by the end of this assignment I would have achieve all of my objectives.

Final - Images

For my final project iv'e selected four images that i thought best communicated my ideas , they all connect with my final ideas. Which is to show a childs perception when at the playground. I think that my ideas clearly show the perception of a child.

I found that from my first shoot to the third shoot there was a huge development. My photo taken had also imporved as i moved away from focusing on the object to the trying to capture the space, and really explore other ideas that exist within the space itself.
